A workshop of Young Indians titled “Making the rubber meet the road!” was held at the campus of the Indian School of Business, Hyderabad on 30th June and 1st July 2007.

The session on 30th June started with a speech by Prof S Ramnarayan of the Indian School of Business on “Why management teams succeed and fail”. His presentation and speech set the tone for the team exercises that followed in the evening and the next day.

After the speech, the Immediate Past National Chairman of Young Indians, Mr Narayan Sethuramon made a presentation on Yi history, growth and achievements so far highlighting on the number of students it has touched so far with Akshara Centres, the summits, the integrity India Campaigns and so on.

After the presentation and just before lunch, each member was assigned to find out and know more about another new member over lunch. Post lunch, the members introduced each other for the participants to know both of them. This session was filled with fun and humour.

After the formal introduction of all the participants at the workshop, Mr Rajan Navani, National Chairman, Young Indians made a presentation of the National Scorecard of Young Indians, which was incorporated after getting all the chapters scorecards.

Mr Jayadev Galla, National Vice Chairman, Young Indians spoke on the alignment on Yi Vision and Goals. After the presentation by Mr Galla, Mr Pradip Kanakia, Head – Risk Advisory Services, KPMG moderated a session wherein, each member was requested to choose his / her area of interest under the Yi Focus Areas.

All the participants were split into 5 different groups, which included Finance and Branding, Akshara, Employability, Membership Engagement and Yi Nets. Each group debated on the action points for an area with the person responsible for doing it and the due date for such activity.

Day 1 completed with the discussions of members as groups, which was followed by a dinner hosted by Mr Jayadev Galla at his residence.

1st July started with a presentation on “Barriers to Innovation and creation of a knowledge society in India” by Prof Rishikesha T Krishnan from IIM Bangalore. Prof Krishnan spoke on the various barriers for Innovation like Society barriers, individual barriers and company barriers and also spoke about his experiences on innovation.

After the speech by Prof Krishnan, the Yi groups were asked to make a presentation on the action points of their areas. Mr Pallam Raju, Minister of State for Defence and special invitee to the workshop spoke on how Yi has grown as an organisation and his expectations on how this organisation must grow rapidly in the years to come. Mr Pallam Raju said that he would be happy to help Young Indians at any point.

The two day workshop came to a close by the vote of thanks by Mr Rajan Navani who thanked all the members who had come for the workshop, Mr Pradip of KPMG for moderating the session and the Executive Members.
